Mr Bawa said that the number of governors being monitored by the Commission for suspected cases of money laundering has increased beyond the three earlier mentioned.
“I urge banks to conduct more sensitisation on the policy and devise a means people can change their old notes to new ones conveniently before January 31, 2023, deadline.”
“Something urgent has to be done to prevent the naira from falling beyond what it is today. As we speak today, the rising cost of food is worrisome.”
“Nigeria today is in a precarious state, and if we do not have an experienced person to manage it, the prediction that Nigeria can collapse can happen easily.”
“Our naira today has no value even in the hands of our people. That is why we invited you, to let you know what is happening and what we are going to do to make it work.”
Mr Buhari said he was convinced that the nation would gain a lot by CBN’s decision to redesign the naira notes.
“Kidnapping can only be stopped by robust policing, social justice for all, and equitable wealth distribution,” said Mr Gumi.
The former CBN deputy governor said the redesigning “will put a lot of operational pressure on commercial banks and the financial system in general.”
The apex bank insisted it received President Buhari’s approval to redesign, produce and circulate new naira notes.
The former deputy governor of the CBN, however, said he fully supports the redesign.
