Nigeria’s colourful 62nd Independence Day Anniversary parades was held amidst watertight security at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Saturday.
Among the 62 are two prosecutors for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Olukayode Ariwoola was sworn into acting capacity after the sudden resignation of Ibrahim Tanko as head of the judiciary.
The investigation followed a tip from a whistleblower.
The Imo state governor described the new chief justice as “tailor-made” for the job.
The president said the award of GCON was for Mr Tanko’s “contributions to Nigeria’s Judiciary, the strengthening of our democracy and national development.”
The claimant alleges that the justices and judges currently earn about N3 million and below as their minimum monthly salaries which was last reviewed in 2008.
In a rare but frenetic complaint, the top jurists agonised about critical operational constraints that could have been avoided under strict compliance with budgetary provisions.
“At no time, no moment did Mr President or any other person from you attempt to talk or ask for favours from the courts.”
The police chief paid a visit to Chief Justice Tanko Muhammad at the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
