The government revealed the outbreak’s full scope, stating that it recorded 15,464 cholera cases, with 15,265 patients successfully treated and discharged.
Mr Boum stated, “Only 1.3 per cent of laboratories in the continent have bacteriology capacity.”
Mr Boum highlighted the need to scale up surveillance, cholera treatment centres and rehabilitation efforts.
The revised IHR was adopted by consensus at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva in 2024.
They also called for stronger and more sustainable financing mechanisms.
The statement said that WHO assessed the global risk from cholera as very high.

Vaccinations helped reduce cholera cases and deaths by 28 per cent and 36 per cent, respectively.
Another 103,000 South Sudanese have sought refuge in neighbouring countries, pushing the total number of South Sudanese refugees to 2.3 million.
