The comedian compared an acceptance to host the show with returning to a crime scene.
The award night was the last of an 8-day event that involved a fashion show, food festival, digital content creators day amongst other activities.
The Academy said the 10 years ban serves as punishment for Will’s “unacceptable and harmful behaviour”.
Will had approached Chris on stage on the night of the show, tearing him a hot slap following the latter’s “G.I.Jane” joke about Will’s wife, Jada.
According to Variety, Chris’ tickets, initially selling at $46 per person on March 18, went up to $341 after the incident on March 28.
“I am embarrassed, and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be,” admitted Will.
“If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report”.
Will, who went on to win and receive his first-ever Oscar award, later apologised to the audience and the Oscar committee.
