The intervention on cooking gas followed the rise in the price of LPG per kg in recent months, from about N700 to above N900 in parts of the country.
The report indicated that the South-East recorded the lowest price of the commodity at N9,847.42.
The residents, who expressed shock at the cooking gas situation, said that they never prepared for such an astronomical increase.
“We are appealing to the federal government to provide incentives to the LPG investors to make the price affordable,” said Mr Olarinoye.
According to Mr Olarinoye, the price has increased in the last four weeks, but retailers have largely borne the burden.
The report said the May 2023 price represented a 6.07 per cent increase, compared to what was obtained in April 2023.
The average retail price per litre of kerosene rose by 160.48 per cent from N450.66 in February 2022 to N1,173.89 in February 2023.
The month’s price was a 1.46 per cent increase over what was obtained in October.
The average price of five-kilogramme cooking gas increased from N4,397.68 in July to N4,456.56 in August.
The charge was intended to help German gas importers who were having to buy more expensive gas from suppliers outside Russia and suffering huge losses.
