The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of one person in a lone crash on the Umuahia-Bende Road, Abia.
The FRSC spokesperson in Benue said the armed men fired gunshots to scare his family members and neighbours before taking him away.
“The exercise is completely free and devoid of any punitive measure,” he said.
The FRSC commander said such an approach would involve effective law enforcement, education and community engagement.
The FRSC commander stated that the initiative aims to enhance the driving profession.
“We have been talking to drivers and sensitising them on road signs and why they need to take note of them,” she said.
He said the crash involved four vehicles, including two tankers carrying diesel and petroleum products.
Mr Mohammed ordered the immediate sanction of the sector commander, under whose jurisdiction the infraction occurred.
He said FRSC authorities were able to identify the deceased through the vehicle’s manifest and had since contacted their families.
The command spokesman, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the measure was to ensure maintenance of law and order.
