The Federal Fire Service has advised Abuja residents to strictly adhere to all fire safety rules as Muslims commemorate the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
He also called for the enactment of the Federal Fire Service and Rescue Act.
The fire reportedly began about 3:30 p.m. on Monday and was contained by firefighters from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and other responders.
Mr Abdullahi said in a statement that the service rescued four persons from outbreaks during the period under review.
The Federal Fire Service has inaugurated a special task force to audit public and private buildings across the country.
Mr Giwa also urged states to build stronger institutions, adopt technology, and foster collaboration to improve emergency management across Nigeria.
It said five persons lost their lives while properties worth N273 million were destroyed by fire during the period.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire likely originated from the battery of a personal mobile device in the living room.
According to him, firefighters are heroes and protectors of our communities.
Another 14-year-old girl was also taken to hospital.
