MultiChoice is seeking to stop the FCCPC from sanctioning it over its recent increase in the DStv and GOtv subscriptions.
MultiChoice announced a new price increase for its GOtv and DStv subscriptions on February 24, expected effective March 1.
The company explained that the increase is a result of the economic challenges it continues to face in Nigeria.
Clear strategic milestones were reached, with the launching of Showmax 2.0, SuperSportBet and Moment, said MultiChoice.
The tribunal sitting in Abuja also ordered the PayTv operator to give one-month free subscription to all its Nigerian subscribers on the DStv and Gotv platforms for flouting its order.
The MultiChoice official described NBC’s action as an abuse of power and urged the court to grant their plea in the interest of justice.
“A monthly subscriber should be given at least a month,” FCCPC said, asking the tribunal to dismiss the preliminary objection as a waste of time for the court.
“Our uplink facility will be impacted by the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal road construction project.’’
In a ruling, the tribunal restrained Multi-Choice from going ahead with the impending price increase schedule to take effect on May 1
“Due to the various economic challenges impacting our business operations, we have had to review the price of our packages.”
