Novak Djokovic’s bid for a record 25th Grand Slam title lay in ruins on Sunday after a demolition job by Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner made only her second appearance of the year this week at the National Bank Open In Toronto.
Emma Raducanu defeated 19-year-old Canadian Leylah Fernandes 6-4, 6-3, in straight sets, to win the U.S. Open.
Djokovic defeated Matteo Berrettini in 6-7(7-4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 at Wimbledon to achieve the feat.
Djokovic now needs one more major title victory to tie Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer who jointly have 20 title wins.
“I did a lot of unforced errors in the first few games. I was really nervous and scared in the beginning.”
