“The attacks were premeditated and orchestrated by some opposition elements, who hired street urchins to waylay the convoy of the governor,” Mr Alao said.
Adebayo Alao-Akala has called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow Oyo to go up in flames, decrying Saturday’s attack and killings in the Igangan area of the state.
Police command in Oyo has urged Igangan residents to trust the security agency and shun self-help, promising to get them justice over the latest attack in the area.
“Now that North had declared war on the South-West, we will never be silent or compromise on the homicide going on in the South-West.”
The community is home to Sunday Igboho, a separatist agitator pushing for Yoruba secession from Nigeria.
“This is proof that we are on the right path,” an official said.
The move comes amid tension generated by the 7 days ultimatum issued by Sunday Adeyemo alias Igboho to Fulanis to vacate the communities.
