Nigeria has activated its national Emergency Operations Centre, currently operating in alert mode while coordinating preparedness activities, according to NCDC.
He warned that lapses in basic infection control practices could increase vulnerability.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says it is working closely with authorities in Cross River following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case.
“Protecting healthcare workers and preventing healthcare-associated transmission must remain a national priority,” the advisory stated.
The director-general of NCDC, Jide Idris, disclosed this in a public health advisory issued on Friday in Abuja, warning that the country had entered a high-risk period.
Mr Idris called on states to establish operational isolation centres.
Mr Idris said that long-term co-investment would help strengthen Nigeria’s health security and protect the country’s economic stability.

Mr Idris urged regular handwashing with soap and clean water and moderation in food and alcohol intake.
The federal government is prioritising a ‘bottom-up’ approach to strengthen health emergency response by empowering the 36 states, FCT, and local governments.
