The army warned that it will no longer condone reckless social media posts of injured or slain soldiers.
Reports said a faction of the group, ISWAP, set up state-like structures in the Abadam, Kukawa, Guzamala, Marte and Monguno local government areas in Borno.
“Regrettably, one gallant officer and six soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice while five other soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries,” said the army.
“The gallant troops successfully recovered a gun truck with an anti-aircraft gun mounted on it, eight AK47 rifles with 10 magazines.”
Army spokesman said the activities of the suspect and his accomplices were responsible for the recent attacks on troops.
A military spokesman said that the feat was achieved by well-coordinated operations of both air and land troops.
In a 44 seconds video sent to The Gazette, lifeless bodies of the killed ESN members were seen in the pool of their blood.
“They were swiftly engaged by troops who successfully neutralised scores.”
Mr. Yerima said weapons discovered from the terrorists include; 12 AK 47 rifles, 8 Fabric Nationale (FN) rifles and Improvise Explosive Devices (IEDs).
“Several terrorists were neutralised, and their gun trucks destroyed.”
