Iran has been attacking Gulf states since the start of the war around two and a half weeks ago, with the UAE coming under particularly heavy fire.
Mr Trump has continued to diminish Mr Khamenei’s leadership, saying the 56-year-old was a “lightweight” incapable of leading Iran.
At 17, he joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fighting in the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.
Earlier this week, the pope voiced his concern over the escalating war in the Middle East and expressed his “profound sorrow” for all the victims.
Mr Netanyahu said at a press conference that Mr Khamenei “cannot show his face in public”.
The U.S. and Israel began attacks on Iran on February 28. Iran has responded with its own strikes on Israel and Gulf countries with U.S. bases.
“We will not forgo avenging the blood of the martyrs. The Strait of Hormuz should still remain closed,” Mr Khamenei said.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday set out conditions for a possible end to the war.
China said on Monday that Iran’s selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new supreme leader was made in accordance with its constitution.
The Jnr Khamenei is widely regarded as the most likely successor, following the death of his father in a joint attack launched by U.S. and Israeli forces.
