Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan said INEC has no excuses regarding electronic transmission, given its humongous 2026 budget.
“Bandits have TikTok accounts. Some of them stream live from wherever they are. But we can’t electronically transmit the results of our elections…,” said a netizen.
The Federal High Court, Abuja Division, on Monday, adjourned the trial of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for alleged cybercrime until February 4, 2026.
Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan is charged with defaming Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi.
The lawmaker stated that it would amount to injustice if she was not allowed to resume her legislative duties because the matter was pending in court.
The embattled lawmaker abandoned her black SUV at the second gate and walked on foot to access the complex.
The senator, representing Ekiti South senatorial district, explained that the 180-day suspension handed down to Akpoti-Uduaghan included non-parliamentary days.
Justice Binta Nyako said the six-month suspension imposed on the senator was excessive, as lawmakers have a total of 181 days to sit in every legislative cycle.
The judge granted the defendant’s bail application on personal recognizance and adjourned the case until September 22 for a hearing.
Two motions dated March 3 and 25 labelled CV/395/M1/2025 and CV/395/M2/2025, cited Mr Akpabio as an appellant.
