The National Identity Management Commission wants NIN to become a mandatory requirement for accessing government services.
“Following the recent challenge posed by the NIMC portal, candidates are free to write the examination without…their NIN.”
The disruption was said to have been as a result of maintenance by a network service provider of its infrastructure.
Making it the ninth extension, the NCC says this would accelerate enrolment in remote areas, diaspora, schools, hospitals, and worship centres.
The tokens are available to all who have been issued an active NIN, and they may be purchased without having to visit the NIMC office.
The board said “all who may want to register, to first obtain their NIN, a major prerequisite for the UTME registration.”
Mr. Pantami made the statement at the International Partnership Forum in Paris, France, on Thursday.
Youth and sports minister Sunday Dare says NIMC registration will be a requirement going forward.
Mr Pantami said the census exercise was fraught with corruption and abuse, while the process involving the NIN was more effective.
PenCom is to commence a pilot run of the exercise from August 2 to 20.
