The NDLEA claims that Suleiman Sidi admitted to have been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre for terrorism and robbery charges.
Mr Dingyadi Friday made the unverified claim in a question-and-answer session with journalists on Friday.
“The security officers on duty fiercely engaged them and inflicted a heavy casualty on them. Regrettably, given their unprecedented number, they overpowered the officers on duty.”
The hunter was said to have hit his neighbour’s son on the head and buttocks with a machete after the victim hit his dog’s leg with a stick.
Prison officials said two of the inmates were brought back to the custodial centre by their mother.
The religious body said among the escapees are hardened criminals who “will go back into the society and continue to unleash evil.”
The police command in the state says eight of the escaped inmates have been arrested.
The 42 inmates are sitting for the examinations at the prison’s adult school within its yard.
The NCoS had experienced series of jail attacks at different custodial centres across the country in recent times.
The Prisons Service says it needs vehicles to convey inmates from the custodian centres to various courts in the state.
