The Senate thereafter observed a one-minute silence in honour of the victims.

“Let it be unequivocally stated that Senator Uduaghan was suspended solely for her persistent act of misconduct,” said the Senate.
Nigerians have criticised the Senate for suspending Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan without looking into the substance of her petition.

Mr Bamidele explained that the bill aims to help the government meet its immediate and future financial obligations.
“The present-day but sad reality is that the judiciary has stagnated on the same salary scale for over 16 years.”
Also, Lateef Abiodun, a criminologist, said the Senate should extend the death penalty to corruption cases by public officers.
The Nigerian Senate has adjourned plenary until May 7 to allow for further refurbishment of its chamber.
