On Saturday, suspected herdsmen attacked the train station in the Igueben area of the state, kidnapping scores of passengers waiting to board.
NRC managing director Fidet Okhiria said on Saturday in a statement that a tweak has been made on operational time and boarding requirements for passengers.
The train service chief lamented that the trip reduction was the only way for the NRC to cope with the increase in diesel prices.
“The suspension should be lifted because whether one travels by road, rail, sea or air, it is God that protects us.”
This requirement was stated by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, in Abuja on Thursday.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) spokesperson did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment on the incident.
Hoodlums were said to have allegedly vandalised components of the rail line, causing the unexpected halt in the trip to Lagos.
The federal government had declared free train rides for Nigerians from December 24 to January 4.
The increase will run for three weeks to accommodate expected upsurge in passenger traffic during the Yuletide.
