The Nigeria Police Force has raised concern at the spate of jungle justice in parts of the country, cautioning against its consequences on criminal justice administration, rule of law and global reputation
Mr Tamunobifiri allegedly obtained and distributed classified government documents, destroyed evidence and contravened relevant money laundering and cybercrime laws.
They were arrested by security operatives during raids on identified black spots in the state.
Mr Adejobi said Mr Tamunobifiri’s arrest and trial were informed by a petition Mr Tinubu’s government after he leaked some documents from the president’s office.
The protesters also called for the dismissal of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, accusing him of supervising “senseless killings of protesters.”
Amnesty International said, “Some of those killed were children chanting ‘peace.’
Then, a body slumped. One of the fleeing protester’s body turned cold. “Officer, wait, wait, wait!” was the frantic voice that followed.
The police have admitted that the rank and file of the force are corrupt because Nigerian society breeds dishonest people and makes them available for recruitment.
The police spokesperson said members of the public were to obtain the digitalised e-CMR certificate online.
The update was presented at the news conference by police spokesman ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday in Abuja.
