Mr Soyinka made the assertion when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Friday.
“We should all be reminded that the sixth of June made it exactly one year killer herdsmen killed at least over 20 people in Igangan.”
The governors pledged alongside their Ondo state counterpart that the killers would be hunted down and brought to book.
The Ondo governor declared that his administration would “not be deterred in responding appropriately to this dastardly act.”
“Unacceptable for worshippers to be mowed down in a church. The perpetrators must certainly be animals just in human skin. It is sacrilegious.”
A lawmaker said the tragic incident was engineered to send a message to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, whose policies have been deemed highly restrictive of nomadic pastoralists.
Anti-graft officials were accused of extorting money from students during a raid of young students around Owo earlier this week.
