“No fewer than 20 students were ambushed and kidnapped around Otukpo. They are coming from Jos,” said the Benue police spokesperson.
“I assure you that the command is committed to rid the state of criminality,” she said.
Also abducted along with the rector were some staff members of the polytechnic and their driver.
Deborah Aku, daughter of the ex-governor, said police rescued six of them from the building shortly before the hoodlums allegedly set the house on fire.
“The attacks are unfortunate. More security men are being deployed to the areas to restore peace,” a police spokesman stated.
“A man, his wife and four children were all wiped out in the attack,” the witness stated.
Police spokesperson said a joint patrol team made up of the police, military, and vigilantes within the area moved swiftly to the scene for a rescue operation.
The kidnappers abandoned their victims and escaped into a nearby forest, following a confrontation from security operatives.
A police spokeswoman said Jude Ebube would be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service.
On June 26, the policeman, James Aondona, engaged in an altercation with one Aondohemba Terkula, which led to the resident’s death.
