The police spokesperson said the operation, carried out over the weekend, was part of efforts to rid Kogi of criminal elements threatening the state’s peace.
“The command has taken security matters very seriously and has put measures in place to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state,” the police commissioner said.
Mr Ovye-Aya said the state Commissioner of Police, Akeem Yusuf, has deployed a team of tactical operatives to the area to trail the hoodlums to apprehend and bring them to book.
Gunmen had invaded a Celestial Church, “Blood of Jesus Parish,” at Felele Quarters around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and opened fire on worshippers.
Bandits had on Thursday attacked some traders in Bagana village, Omala LGA.
The police said the victims were travelling in a tricycle when the terrorists opened fire on them.
He recalled that the killer tricked Mr Ajayi to celebrate the new car in a location where he conspired with the suspected accomplices to kill him.
Several persons were killed, and over 20 houses were razed in June in a similar clash between the two tribes.
The dreaded Islamic group has been claiming responsibility for several explosions in Kogi state and is believed to operating a sleeper cell in the state.
Shops and offices are to remain closed throughout the day for the fasting and prayers.
