The University of Jos Teaching Hospital says it lost 10 COVID-19 patients between December and January 2021.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Edmund Banwat, on Friday, told reporters in Jos that some of the dead patients have been on oxygen for more than two weeks before they eventually died.

Mr. Banwat said although there are patients who have recovered and are now living their normal lives, “but the truth is that the second wave of the virus is more severe”.

The Jos hospital boss expressed worries that the second wave is a bit critical for the hospital management than were seen during the first phase.

“Between yesterday (Thursday) and today (Friday), we lost one patient”, Mr. Banwat said.

Nigeria, in the last few days, have recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases with several deaths recorded globally.

Peoples Gazette reported that the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, in the second week of January 2021, said with the rapid rate of cases, the country is getting closer to a point where hospitals would no longer be able to contain affected patients.

The federal government said it is making efforts to get the recommended COVID-19 vaccines in the Country. A vaccine that has been criticised by some politicians.

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been under criticism for encouraging Nigerians to boycott the vaccine.
