Terrorism: Army chief Shaibu celebrates Xmas with troops, demands vigilance

The chief of army staff, Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday celebrated Christmas with the troops of Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, and charged them to remain focused on the mission.
Mr Shaibu gave the charge at a luncheon organised as part of the Christmas celebration. He also charged troops of the sector to be professional in the discharge of their operational duties.
The army chief restated the need for vigilance, especially during this yuletide period.
“I extend warm Christmas wishes to all officers, soldiers, civilian staff, and families of the Nigerian Army. This season invites reflection and thanksgiving as we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, emphasizing love, sacrifice, compassion, and unity—values that resonate deeply within our army.
“I salute those serving in various theaters during this festive season, whose sacrifices ensure our nation’s safety. Your commitment is profoundly appreciated. Under my leadership, I pledge to prioritize professionalism and personnel welfare.
“Our philosophy remains a focused transformation into a resilient force ready to fulfill our constitutional duties. To our soldiers’ families, your love and patience empower our troops. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” he said.
Mr Shaibu also extended gratitude to sister services, security agencies, and the wider communities for their support in maintaining peace and security.
He said, ”As we celebrate Christmas, let us embody the season’s essence through love and unity. Embrace 2026 with optimism and dedication as we tackle emerging challenges and uphold our service’s honor. Remember to celebrate responsibly, maintain security awareness, and honor our fallen heroes.”
