Three men arraigned for allegedly stealing goats in Ekiti

The police on Tuesday arraigned three persons before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goats.
They were identified as Ajewole Omoniyi (38), Ajayi Mayowa (25) and Ajewole Fatobi (44).
They are facing a two-count charge of stealing and attempt to steal.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants, of unknown addresses, committed the offence on Sunday, June 14 at about 12:58 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.
Mr Oriyomi alleged that the defendants stole goats valued at N150,000, belonging to the complainant, Funmilayo Aregbesola.
He also alleged that the defendants attempted to steal goats from another person in the same environment before they were caught.
According to him, the offences contravened Section 302(1)(a) and 416 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The counsel for the defendants, Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant them bail, assuring the court that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000, with one surety each in like sum.
Mr Adeosun adjourned the case to July 24 for hearing. (NAN)
