Three transmission towers collapse, disrupting power supply in Keffi, Akwanga

The Transmission Company of Nigeria says three transmission towers have collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor, disrupting electricity supply to parts of Keffi and Akwanga.
In a statement on Thursday, the company said the collapse occurred on Wednesday at about 4:06 p.m. amid rainy, windy conditions.
“The 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection,” the statement read.
It stated that investigations revealed that three transmission towers have collapsed, adding that the company was promptly isolated for safety.
“Consequently, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are presently unavailable. No load can therefore be nominated on the affected feeders in the interim,” it said.
The company said its engineers were already on site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the requirements to begin restoration work.
TCN apologised for the disruption and said it was making efforts to complete the necessary repairs and restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
The company added that it would provide further updates as restoration efforts progress.
