Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority were allegedly attacked by thugs wielding dangerous weapons in Ajao Estate area of Lagos on Friday.

In a statement signed by LASPPPA Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Emdim Umeh Abimbola; General Manager of LASPPPA, Kehinde Osinaike, the state government condemned the attack on its officials by thugs while on enforcement activities/removal of an illegal PFS.

According to the GM, a joint team of LASPPPA and LASBCA had gone to remove the illegal construction at 1, Robinson Gbagi Street, Ajao Estate when suddenly thugs armed with guns, cudgels, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons started shooting at the officials.

Speaking further, Mr Osinaike said during the mayhem, one of LASBCA operatives was macheted on his head and shoulder, and rushed to the hospital while others are receiving first aid after sustaining various injuries.

He noted that prior to the removal, a stop work order had been served on the site but rather than comply with the directives, the owner broke the seal while planning a well orchestrated attack on government officials.

Mr Osinaike decried the incessant attacks on government officials on lawful assignments, warning that the Lagos government would henceforth take decisive actions against perpetrators of such heinous acts.

He urged residents to always cooperate with LASPPPA and LASBCA and for developers and property owners to always get the necessary permits before building.

He said failure to do this will attract the full wrath of the law, adding that the “government will continue to maintain zero tolerance for illegal, unauthorized and haphazard building construction in the state.”
