Tinubu acted like LG chairman inaugurating 30km section of coastal highway: Amaechi

Disgruntled former APC chieftain Rotimi Amaechi has slammed President Bola Tinubu for inaugurating a 30km section of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. The highway is designed to cover 750 kilometres.
“Please, say something else. Did we complete 30 kilometres of road, and we call somebody to come and commission it? And how much?” said Mr Amaechi, when responding to a question on Channels TV Thursday about whether the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had fared better than Mr Tinubu’s.
The former transport minister added, “They said they commissioned 30 kilometres, 30 kilometres? We forced Buhari to commission the Lagos-Ibadan railway. He didn’t want to. Buhari did Lagos-Ibadan, is that 30 kilometres?
“I feel ashamed when the president is called to commission 60 kilometres of road. That’s what the local government chairman should commission. Myself as a minister, I will not be there.”
Mr Amaechi, who recently joined other aggrieved APC and PDP stalwarts to form a coalition against the incumbent president, also hinted that the award of the highway contract was not transparent. The contract was awarded to a firm linked to the president’s son, Seyi.
“Look, Buhari will insist on due process. Let them tell us how they arrived at the contractor for the coastal road,” Mr Amaechi claimed. “To be honest with Nigerians, if you’re not in APC, is your life today, than when Buhari was in government?”
Responding to whether he will describe the Tinubu government as the worst, he responded, “Tell me one that it’s better than,” adding that, “If Tinubu was doing well, believe me, I’ll be the first to sing praises. We have entered the third year, and people are dying.”
The first section of the project, which commenced in March 2024 and was inaugurated on May 31, 2025, is a six-lane dual carriageway extending from Ahmadu Bello Way to Eleko Village on the Lekki Peninsula.
