The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress has responded to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State for the burial of the APC chairman’s mother.

Seye Oladejo, the spokesperson for the APC in Lagos, in a statement on Sunday, said Mr Tinubu’s visit to Plateau showed ” compassion and solidarity‐a mark of respect to a distinguished Nigerian family in grief and a reaffirmation of our shared humanity”

Mr Oladejo said Mr Abubakar’s criticism that Mr Tinubu failed to visit communities ravaged by bandit attacks but attended “political funeral” betrays not just poor judgment but also moral bankruptcy.”

Mr Abubakar had, on Saturday, said it was “unfortunate” that the president did not deem it fit to visit communities attacked by bandits and suspected herdsmen, especially in Plateau State.

However, Mr Oladejo said, “Only a man blinded by bitterness and political envy would seek to twist such a solemn event for cheap propaganda.”

The Lagos APC spokesperson called Mr Abubakar a hypocrite, claiming insecurity festered while he served as vice president between 1999 and 2007.

Mr Oladejo claimed Mr Abubakar also ignored insecurity while he was the vice president, adding, “His PDP government laid the foundation for today’s security challenges by institutionalising corruption, destroying the economy, and undermining the capacity of our armed forces.”

Mr Oladejo lauded Mr Tinubu, saying the president had demonstrated leadership unlike that of the PDP-led government era.

“Concrete results are being recorded nationwide, and Nigerians can attest to the steady return of peace in previously troubled zones.

“It is laughable that Atiku, who hops from one political platform to another in his unending and fruitless quest for power, now attempts to lecture a performing President on empathy and governance,” Mr Oladejo said.
