President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the Appropriation (Amendment) (No.4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget from September 30, 2026 to December 31, 2026.

In a statement on Wednesday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the assent followed the amendment’s swift passage by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the extension gives ministries, departments and agencies more time to complete ongoing capital projects. 

“It ensures that funds already appropriated are fully put to work for Nigerians, without disrupting critical programmes,” it stated.

According to the statement, Mr Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration of the bill.

Mr Tinubu described the assent as a further sign of the cooperation between the executive and the legislature in the service of the nation.

The latest extension makes it the fourth time the National Assembly had moved the deadline for implementing the 2025 capital budget.

In December last year, 2025, lawmakers approved a three-month extension of the capital budget, pushing the deadline to March 31, 2026, after repealing and re-enacting the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation Acts.

On March 31, the Senate and House of Representatives also extended the implementation deadline from March 31 to June 30.

On June 15, the National Assembly extended the capital component of the budget from June 30 to September 30.
