Tinubu knows about rainbow coalition; I’m not answerable to APC governors: Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu is privy to his “Rainbow Coalition” and all his political activities.

Mr Wike, who disclosed this during an Arise TV interview on Tuesday night, said he is not answerable to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors.

“There is nothing that I do that I don’t tell Mr President. I’m not answerable to APC governors,” the minister said.

The APC governors forum, in a meeting on Monday, declared that the ruling party would not support any candidate from any coalition.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, speaking on behalf of all APC governors, added that the ruling party would not entertain any political arrangements that could fuel divided loyalty in the APC and jeopardise Mr Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.

However, Mr Wike maintained that his support is solely for the president, not for the APC as a ruling party.

“If people fail to learn from other people, they don’t grow. I took 31 days to commission projects in the FCT, and they are not happy,” the minister added.

Mr Wike, who berated the APC governors, called them smart but lazy, insisting his support for Mr Tinubu is clear.

He said, “Hope Uzodimma should be lucky that I’m not in the APC. Hope fears for nothing. When I look at the APC governors who held the press conference, I see some people who are smart but politically lazy. Hope Uzodinma was the governor of Imo State, yet President Tinubu could not secure 10% of the votes there.

“Hope, in his own state, Imo State, was governor. President Tinubu didn’t get 10% votes in the 2023 elections, but he took two senators, and the Labour Party took one senator. Is he saying Imo people were confused, or were they not confused?

“The governors of Osun, Anambra and Abia states are supporting the President’s reelection. Won’t they still support the candidates of their parties in other elections? So where is the confusion?”

Mr Wike’s Rainbow Coalition has continued to gather momentum in some states as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
