President Bola Tinubu on Saturday reappointed Ahmed Audi as the commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Mr Tinubu renewed Mr Audi’s tenure for another five years, according to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

According to the spokesman, Mr Audi was reappointed on Friday, February 27, and will officially resume on Monday.

In his charge, Mr Tinubu urged Mr Audi to reposition the paramilitary agency and ensure it plays its part in Nigeria’s security architecture.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term. The reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27.

“President Tinubu charged Audi to reposition the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security, especially as the police refocus on their primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists,” it added.

Mr Audi retired from active serviceon Friday, February 27, after attaining the mandatory retirement age and completing a five-term.

He was initially appointed commandant-general by former President Muhammadu Buhari on March 1, 2021.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Mr Audi attended the College of Education, Akwanga; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; the University of Calabar; and the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, for his grade II, undergraduate, master’s, and postgraduate certificates, respectively.

Joining the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer, Mr Audi rose to become a divisional officer in the Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State after completing his basic officer training in 1997.

In 2007, he was promoted to the rank of commandant of the corps and subsequently commandant-general at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja.
