The federal government on Thursday organised a town hall in Jos, the capital of Plateau, to dessiminate its policies and programmes to the citizens of the state.

The event was organised by the office of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Bola Tinubu, in charge of the North-Central region, on Community Engagement.

Speaking at the event, Abiodun Essiet, the SSA to the president, said the exercise aimed at acquainting citizens with the programmes and policies of the current administration.

She added that the exercise would create an opportunity for dialogue and breach existing gaps between the citizens and the federal government.

”This town hall underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to involving citizens in decision-making, creating room for dialogue and fostering inclusivity and community engagement.

”This will breach existing gaps between the government and the people, particularly those at the grassroots,” said Ms Essiet.

She stressed that the event aimed to ensure citizens’ voices were heard and inform them of the government’s upcoming initiatives.

”Government can’t do it alone. We need your support and cooperation to succeed,” she said.

Ms Essiet acknowledged a disconnect between the people and the government and promised to regularly engage the people to promote social cohesion in communities.

Declaring the event open, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his deputy, Josephine Piyo, described the town hall as timely.

The governor said the event would promote citizens’ participation in governance and promised to run an all-inclusive, transparent and accountable government in Plateau.

Mr Mutfwang, who commended the president for his laudable and peoples-centred initiatives, urged him to initiate policies that would further address the current hardship in the country.

He, however, called on Nigerians, particularly Plateau residents, to support the government’s efforts aimed at delivering the dividends of democracy to all.
