The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency has deployed full operational personnel across 27 major corridors in Ogun to ensure smooth traffic during Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Acting TRACE commander Elias Adebayo confirmed the deployment in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Mr Adebayo said the special operation began on Monday and would run until March 27 to manage increased human and vehicular movement.

He said the agency had rolled out its Eid-el-Fitr operational schedule to ensure effective traffic management and free flow on major corridors.

“We are deploying operatives to Eid praying grounds across the 20 local government areas to control traffic and manage parking at entry and exit points.

“We will increase patrol visibility and strategically deploy rescue teams, while intensifying public awareness campaigns before, during and after the celebrations,” he said.

The operation will cover major highways, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Interchange-Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode-Benin-Ore Expressway. Others are the Sango-Ota-Atan-Owode-Idiroko Highway and the Atan-Lusada-Agbara-Badagry Highway.

Mr Adebayo added that the Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun-Interchange Expressway and the Abeokuta-Ewekoro-Ifo-Sango-Ota Expressway would also be covered. He said the operation would be conducted in collaboration with safety agencies and community-based traffic volunteers under the TRACE Mayors initiative.

Mr Adebayo advised motorists to drive cautiously, especially on roads under construction, noting that operatives would regulate traffic and maintain order. He warned against drunk driving, speeding and unnecessary nighttime travel during the festive period.

Mr Adebayo said vehicles impounded for traffic offences would not be released until March 30, when the operation ends.

He urged residents to contact TRACE through emergency lines 112, 0706 942 5555, 0806 270 3568 and 0803 491 9165 in emergencies.
