Traditional rulers in Ondo have organised a prayer session for the quick recovery of ailing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Mr Akeredolu was recently flown out of the country following his health condition.

The governor has since handed over to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in an “acting capacity,” pending when he would resume official duty.

At the prayer session on Wednesday, the traditional rulers, under the aegis of the Ondo State Council of Obas, prayed to God to grant Mr Akeredolu good health to resume office and complete his job as the governor of the state.

Led by its chairman, the Deji of Akure kingdom, Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, the monarch said they believed that God would lay his healing hands on the governor and make him stand back on his feet.

Mr Aladelusi said the traditional rulers decided to offer supplications to God to seek his face collectively in the interest of the sick governor, especially having offered prayers at their different domains.

He specifically gave samples of where God healed the sick in the scriptures, irrespective of the causes and nature of their sickness.

Describing the governor as a fearless leader who had done so much for the state in security and infrastructure, Mr Aladelusi stated that the traditional rulers would never be tired in their prayers for Mr Akeredolu to get healed.

“Therefore, what the Obas can do at this critical time is to pray for him (Akeredolu) so that he can continue the good works that he is doing in the State and Nigeria,” he said.

He frowned at how politicians in the state are already taking advantage of the ill health of the governor to heat the polity.

“Rather than causing unnecessary tension, the politicians should rather come together and pray for the Governor and the state to seek the good of the land,” Mr Aladelusi said.

Earlier, the Abodi of Ikale, Babatunde Faduyile, led the traditional rulers to offer “traditional prayers” for the governor.

The Olujigba of Ajigba, in Akure, Luyi Rotimi, led the “Christian prayers” for the quick recovery of the governor.

Yusuf Agbesinga, who represented the Chief Imam of Akure, Abdulhakeem Akorede, led the “Islamic prayers,” asking God to intervene in Mr Akeredolu’s health with his healing powers.

The Gazette reports that the prayer session was held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s office in Akure.
