Transparency International says corruption increasing under Buhari

Despite the anti-corruption campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari regime, corruption is on the increase in the country, with Nigeria ranking 154 out of 180 countries in the 2021 corruption Index.
Transparency International disclosed this in its Corruption Perceptions Index 2021 released on Tuesday.
“The 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index released by Transparency International today shows corruption is on the increase in Nigeria,” the organisation said.
Under Mr Buhari’s watch, Nigeria scored 24 out of 100 points, ranking 154 out of 180 in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2021.
“The country scored 24 out of 100 points in the #CPI2021, which is one point less compared to the score of 2020,” Transparency International tweeted on Tuesday.
“In the Corruption Perceptions Index 2021, Nigeria ranks 154 out of 180 countries and territories, falling back five places from the rank of 149 in 2020.”
On its website, Transparency International further explained that “in Nigeria (24) – which hit a historic low on the 2021 CPI – more than 100 powerful individuals were exposed as having used anonymous companies to buy properties with a total worth of £350 million in the United Kingdom alone.”
Mr Buhari campaigned for president in 2015 as an anti-corruption crusader, vowing to “kill corruption to prevent it from killing Nigerians.” However, under his watch, corruption remains unabated.
Peoples Gazette had in different exclusive reports since 2020 exposed series of corruption scandals involving Mr Buhari’s ministers, aides and political allies.
