Transportation minister advises Gombe lawmakers to partner executive for good governance

The Minister of Transportation, Mr Said Alkali, has urged Gombe State House of Assembly to strengthen the relationship with the executive arm of the state toward good governance.
Mr Alkali gave the advice in a keynote address at the Annual Retreat of Gombe State House of Assembly on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to him, such action will promote unity and understanding capable of upgrading the state.
“I, therefore, admonish you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to make the legislature a progressive partner that extends hands of fellowship to the executive arm. To ensure an effective budget process for good governance of Gombe State,” he said.
The minister said that the retreat had created a platform for him to meet his fellow brothers charged with the responsibility of making laws for the peace and good governance of the state.
He commended members of the House for their initiative for organising the retreat at the present critical time.
He stated, “This requires meticulous translation of laudable executive policies into legislation to place the state on top of the developmental index by relevant public and private stakeholders responsible for benchmark parliamentary performance. It is my conviction that the choice of the theme of the retreat. Good governance through an effective budget process will enhance capacity for quality budget legislation and effective oversight.
“Choice of topics such as budget monitoring and tracking, operationalisation of finance autonomy , bill process, scrutiny and analysis and techniques for oversight work plan development will certainly equip you to acquire more skills.”
