Troops arrest suspected Boko Haram spy in Yobe, recover phone, cash

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 159 Battalion in Kanama, Yobe State, under Operation Hadin Kai, have arrested a suspected Boko Haram spy during a security operation.
According to Zagalola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the suspect was apprehended around 3:15 p.m. on March 30 following intelligence provided by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Mr Makama, citing security sources, said troops swiftly mobilised to the Kanama community, where the suspect, identified as Isah Mahammadu, 23, was arrested.
“The suspect hails from Kafetowa village in the Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State,” the source said.
Preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect denied any involvement with terrorist groups, claiming he was in Kanama to celebrate the Sallah festivities.
Items recovered from him included a small bag containing a mirror, four hand bangles, a torchlight phone, and ₦3,500.
