Troops arrested 25 suspected illicit drug peddlers in Plateau: Official

Troops of Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (JTF-OPEP), have arrested 25 suspected peddlers of illicit drugs in the Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau.
Maj. Samson Zhakom, the media officer of the operation, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Jos.
Mr Zhakom said the troops, who raided the suspects’ hideout at Layin Sabon Kasuwa, also recovered some illicit substances.
The media officer said the activities of the drug peddlers had largely contributed to the security challenges confronting the state.
“During the operation, troops arrested 25 suspected drug peddlers in possession of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs.
“The arrested suspects and recovered items are in custody and will be handed over to relevant agencies for prosecution,” he said.
Mr Zhakom called on residents of the Plateau, particularly parents, to support the security agencies in tackling the consumption of illicit substances in the state.
