Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, operating in the 82 Division Nigerian Army, have foiled an attack by the Indigenous People of Biafra on its Forward Operating Base in Ukwuorji, along Owerri-Onitsha expressway in Imo.

In a statement on Tuesday, army spokesperson, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said the irredentist group attempted the attack on the troops on August 20 but met their waterloo when they came under the superior firepower of the vigilant troops.

He said the troops recovered one AK 47 Rifle and 10 Live rounds of 7.62 mm Special Ammunition from the surrendered terrorist.

Mr Nwachukwu said the troops of 1 Brigade Garrison operating under 8 Division in the North-West, on Monday ambushed insurgents at Bobo village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara.

He explained that acting on actionable intelligence, the troops ambushed the insurgents on a mission to attack the village.
