Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed a suspected Boko Haram driver and foiled an alleged terrorist extortion mission along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada area of Yobe.

A statement on Tuesday by Mohammed Goni, the acting spokesman for the operation, said the troops also recovered weapons and logistics items from the terrorists during the gun battle.

“Acting on credible and actionable intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to collect illegal levies from local communities,” he said.

He said troops of the forward operating base  in Bukarti, in conjunction with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol towards the Paya Kafiya axis on July 20, 2026.

Mr Goni said the troops made contact with the terrorists and immediately engaged them with overwhelming and superior firepower.

“During the ensuing firefight, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was successfully engaged and immobilised while its driver was neutralised,” he said.

He added that four other terrorists abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds.

The spokesperson said the troops recovered a Volkswagen Golf, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools abandoned during the operation.
