Truck drivers dismantle roadblocks mounted by louts on Anambra highways

Articulated vehicle drivers under the aegis of Heavy Duty Truck Drivers Association of Nigeria have said they will commence clearing and dismantling of roadblocks mounted by louts for easy flow of traffic this festive season and beyond.
The National President of the association, Mr Uche Nebuwa, told journalists on Sunday in Onitsha, Anambra State, that the exercise would commence from Monday, December 18.
He assured that they would not watch the roads to be taken over by louts who, he said, constitute a nuisance to the travelling public.
He assured of synergy with the police and other security operatives to free the highways from the grip of touts.
He expressed disappointment with the activities of local government revenue collectors who mount roadblocks on the highways, thereby disturbing the heavy duty drivers.
He noted that the drivers had their road worthiness, drivers’ licences, vehicle particulars and stickers of the Nigerian Military Widows’ Association in their vehicles for easy identification.
He further said that louts, illegal revenue collectors, council chairmen, among others, obstruct, block our vehicles on the road and should clear the roads in their own interest.
“President Bola Tinubu has pledged to sanitise the transport industry and any lout that feels they can frustrate the smooth vehicular flow nationwide is dreaming.
“The local government council levies we pay on the federal roads are illegal, but we pay the levies to curtail their illegal activities,” he said.
