Trump to face criminal charges over classified document indictment

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been reportedly indicted for handling classified documents after he left the White House.
He is expected to turn himself in by Tuesday.
According to various reports, Mr Trump, 76, is charged with seven offences under the Espionage Act, including the unauthorised retention of confidential information.
It is Mr Trump’s second indictment and the first federal indictment of a former president.
His latest indictment came hours after former Vice-President Mike Pence told Americans that Mr Trump doesn’t deserve to be U.S. president again.
Mr Trump is running a campaign to return to the White House in 2024.
“I believe that anyone who puts themselves over the constitution should never be president of the United States,” Mr Pence said. “And anyone who asked someone else to put them over the constitution should never be president of the United States again.”
“But the American people deserve to know that on that day, President Trump also demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution,” the former vice-president explained. “Now, voters will be faced with the same choice: I chose the constitution, and I always will.”
The U.S. government is looking into how Mr Trump handled sensitive information after the FBI executed a search warrant in 2022 at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
According to reports, the documents were transported to his Florida club, Mar-a-Lago, after he left office in 2021, as well as any potential obstruction of the inquiry and government efforts to recover the information.
