TUC president commends Gov Mutfwang for worker-friendly policies

Festus Osifo, the president of the Trade Union Congress, has commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for initiating worker-friendly policies. Mr Osifo said this at the 1st Quadrennial Delegate Congress of TUC in Plateau on Thursday in Jos.
The president further commended Mutfwang for sustaining a cordial relationship with labour unions in Plateau. He explained that the conference afforded TUC the opportunity to reflect on its progress and chart the way forward.
“TUC will remain a beacon of hope, stability and principled leadership, especially at this time when Nigeria continues to navigate complex social, economic and security challenges. We are here not just to elect new TUC officials in Plateau, but also to reaffirm our commitment to workers’ welfare. We commend the governor of Plateau for his commitment to sustaining a cordial relationship with labour unions in the state,”he said.
Kenneth Shammah, the chairman of the TUC in Plateau, said that the event underscored the union’s continued calls for better welfare for workers. He added that it is also aimed at promoting democratic values and fostering peaceful coexistence, social justice and stability in Plateau.
Mr Shammah, who had promised to support the Mutfwang-led administration to succeed, however, called on the government to address some of the challenges workers in Plateau were facing.
Declaring the conference open, Titus Alams, the special adviser on workers’ welfare and corporate affairs to the governor of Plateau, said that the government would continue to make workers’ welfare a top priority.
Mr Alams, who commended the various labour unions in the state for supporting the government, assured workers of a conducive working environment.
