Turkey earthquake death toll nears 7,000
Nearly 7,000 people have been confirmed dead in Turkey after Monday’s earthquake, according to official figures released Wednesday.
In Turkey, about 6,957 people have died, and more than 38,000 have been injured, the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said.
The number of rescuers trying to find survivors and victims’ numbered over 96,000, the authority said, including teams from abroad.
On top of the Turkish death toll, more than 2,000 have died in neighbouring Syria after the devastating quake on Monday.
