Ghana international Christian Atsu’s whereabouts is still yet to be ascertained despite multiple reports claiming the former Chelsea player has been pulled out of rubble after twin earthquakes hit Türkiye on Monday.

Atsu and Taner Savut, the Sportin Director of Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor, where the Ghanaian is currently playing had remained unseen after teammates and technical staff were rescued.

Multiple media outlets including Portuguese newspapers, UK-based Mirror and The Guardian had claimed that the 31-year-old was rescued from the rubble and had been sent to the hospital for injuries suffered to his right leg and difficulties in breathing.

However, the details of the event remained sketchy as no pictorial nor video evidence has been available to confirm that he was truly pulled out of the rubble.

Activities across Atsu’s social media account have also remained silent till now.

In a new twist of event on Wednesday, reports came out that the former Newcastle United man is still under the rubble and yet to be rescued, dismissing earlier reports as a case of mistaken identity.

As per EuroFoot, a board member of Atsu’s current club Mustafa Özat dismissed the news that the player has been found as untrue. Özat confirmed Wednesday evening that Atsu and Savut are ‘still under the rubble’.

“I received information that Christian Atsu was rescued from the rubble, but it was NOT true.”

“gave the same information to the press, but at the moment, the information received is that Atsu and Taner Savut are under the rubble.”

Also, Atsu’s agent Nana Sechere confirmed his client’s location is still unknown despite reports suggesting that he has been rescued.

“Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts. As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian,” Sechere tweeted.

More than 11,000 people have lost their lives in the disastrous incident, with thousands others injured as search for survivors continues in the country; many contries have started sending humanitarian assistance to Türkiye.
