Two arraigned for allegedly stealing, receiving stolen phone

Two men, Mohammed Musa (27) and Joshua Abolarinwa (35), were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing and receiving a stolen phone.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and receiving a stolen phone.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 8, 2024, at Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that Musa, on June 8, 2024, at Iyin road in Ado-Ekiti, unlawfully stole a mobile phone Tecno Pop 6 valued at N60, 000 belonging to one Alofe Janet.
Oriyomi also alleged that the defendant Abolarinwa, sometime in July at Atikankan Area in Ado-Ekiti, did unlawfully receive the stolen phone from Musa, belonging to the complainant.
He said that the offences contravened Section 301(1) (a) and 343(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Adedayo Awe, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until October 3, for hearing.
