Amid the political crisis rocking Rivers, the commissioner of education in the state, Chinedu Mmom, has tendered his resignation letter from the cabinet of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Mr Mmom, a strong loyalist of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, resigned his position in a letter dated May 15 and addressed to Mr Fubara.

In the copy of the letter obtained by Peoples Gazette, Mr Mmom said his workplace as a commissioner in the cabinet of Mr Fubara has become “toxic.”

He also added that there was a “loss of trust and animosity” in the cabinet which he considers unhealthy.

“It is a truism that a calm, safe and friendly environment would stimulate efficient service delivery and enhanced productivity.

“It is however unfortunate to note that my current workspace has become toxic and no longer guarantees a favourable environment to enable me to realise my set targets for the education sector in the state.

“There is loss of trust, animosity and sharp division among colleagues in the same cabinet which is unhealthy and very unfortunate,” Mr Mmom’s letter read.

The Gazette reports that Mr Mmom is the fourth reappointed commissioner to resign from the cabinet of Mr Fubara, in recent weeks.

Also, the commissioner for social welfare, Inime Aguma, has resigned from Mr Fubara’s government.

In the copy of her letter addressed to the governor, Mrs Aguma said the current “inconducive environment” made her tendered her resignation letter.

Messrs Zacchaeus Adangor and Isaac Kamalu had both earlier tendered their resignation letters too.

In April, Mr Adangor, attorney-general and commissioner for justice was later redeployed to the ministry of special duties by the governor.

Also, Mr Kamalu, commissioner for finance was redeployed to the ministry of employment generation and economic empowerment.

Recall that the trio were among the cabinet members of Mr Fubara, who resigned their positions and left the government due to the political feud between Messrs Wike and Fubara.

However, they were absolved into the government after peace was brokered between the FCT minister and Mr Fubara by President Bola Tinubu.

Despite the president’s intervention, the political imbroglio between the two former allies and their loyalists have continued.
