The U. S government has reportedly used emergency powers to enable the sale of 14,000 tank ammunition to Israel without congress approval.

The Pentagon said in a statement on Saturday that the State Department utilised an Arms Export Control Act emergency notification on Friday for the tank rounds valued at $106.5 million for urgent delivery to Israel.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the Joe Biden administration is requesting congressional approval for the sale of the shells as part of a larger deal.

The larger cargo, valued at over $500 million, consists of 45,000 rounds for Israel’s Merkava tanks, which are frequently used in the country’s onslaught in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people.

Since October 7, about 48,800 Palestinians have been injured in Gaza, and at least 17,700 dead.
