U.S. secretary of state Anthony Blinken has assured President-elect Bola Tinubu of the U.S. commitment to further strengthen the U.S.-Nigeria relationship with the incoming administration.

Mr Blinken, in a statement by the U.S. State Department, said he called Mr Tinubu on Tuesday to discuss issues of interest.

The secretary noted that the U.S.-Nigeria partnership was built on shared interests and strong people-to-people ties and that those links should continue strengthening under Mr Tinubu’s tenure.

He also discussed the importance of inclusive leadership representing all Nigerians, continued comprehensive security cooperation, and reforms supporting economic growth with the president-elect.

Mr Tinubu will be sworn in as Nigeria’s president on May 29 amid lawsuits challenging the legitimacy of his victory in the February 25 presidential election.
